The Good, the Bad & the Ugly

The Good

Wikipedia is one of the top ten most visited sites on the web

  • It hosts millions of articles.
  • Handy page view statistics show article traffic – see figure 1.
  • Google loves Wikipedia and features it prominently in search results.
  • Having an article boosts brands.

Wikipedia makes it easy to find info, as long as it’s there in the first place

  • Handy categories in article footers link similar articles.
  • Technical terms can be linked to their own articles, reducing the need for excessive explanations and clutter.

The Bad

  • Wikipedia doesn’t like people editing their own articles.
  • The notability and manual of style guidelines can be confusing.
  • People without long editing histories find it hard to get things done.

The Ugly

  • Site gatekeepers will block profiles of suspected connected editors.
  • Edits will be quickly reverted, and articles can be flagged for suspected connected editing and advertising.
  • Flags can be very hard to remove. Some stay on for years. See figure 2.
  • Hours of work can be reverted in an instant.

The Solution: Hire the Wizard to make the drama and uncertainty disappear.
